PURPOSE: To demonstrate quantitatively the conversion of electrical energy into heat.
DESCRIPTION: About 300 ml of water is heated in a beaker with a 200-watt immersion heater. Measure the initial water temperature, let the water heat for a fixed time with the immersion heater, and measure the final water temperature. Good to about ten percent.
