PURPOSE: To demonstrate magnetic deflection of an electron beam.
DESCRIPTION: The beam of an oscilloscope CRT is viewed at the front on the fluorescent screen in the standard way. Holding a magnet near the CRT such that the magnetic field is perpendicular to the path of the electrons creates a magnetic force on the electron beam which deflects the beam, as can be seen on the fluorescent tube.
