N1-61: REFRACTION OF LIGHT IN DIAMOND

PURPOSE: To show how a diamond produces colors from white light.

DESCRIPTION: A bright point light source with condenser lens and baffle passes through a small hole in the screen and strikes a small mounted artificial diamond. Because of its multiple prismatic facets, the diamond separates the light into its spectral colors, directing much of the light backwards onto the screen.
